On Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, Gov. Hochul delayed congestion pricing in a frankly rather stupid move. While, yes, it may win democrats more seats in the House in the upcoming election, it also will lose her votes, as if it doesn't go into effect by June 30th, many supporters of the program won't vote for her. Honestly, the smart thing for her to do is to call off the delay. Now all there is left to do is hope that the MTA board votes against this outrageous decision.
What is Congestion Pricing?
Congestion pricing is a plan to charge drivers up to $15.00 to drive into the central business district (CBD) of Manhattan. In addition, after 9pm, it is only $3.75. This will generate $1 billion for the MTA's capitol projects. As such, this is very much needed.
Why Hochul Won't Let It Go Through (I Think)
Gov. Hochul is delaying congestion pricing in order to get swing voters to vote democrat in the 2024 election. I believe that after the election, she will allow it to go through. This is a very much needed change.
The Ideal Solution (Now That Hochul Has Said She Wants Congestion Pricing Delayed)
In an ideal NYC, this flat-out wouldn't have happened. However, within the range of it happening, the best outcome would be for the MTA board to say NO. The second-best outcome is for it to come through anyway after the election.
A few final words:
I strongly encourage all who are reading this to sign this potation. Thank you for your support.
